About Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes

The towering trees majestically gracing the spacious yard in front of the Daggett Funeral Home were mere saplings when George Daggett planted them, by hand, in 1956, after he and his wife, Fawn, built and opened their first funeral home in Barryton. Their second funeral home, Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home, opened in Big Rapids in 1974. There, George's hands, once more, planted saplings which would gradually mature to superb stature, marveling their minute beholders.

Like the trees George Daggett planted, George and Fawn's marriage was sturdy and steadfast, beautiful and enduring, bearing two daughters, Ann and Christine. George and Fawn worked diligently. While their daughters and George's trees grew, so did their business, largely because the Daggett commitment was not just to serve, but to compassionately serve all of Mecosta County and proximity.

George Daggett's sudden passing in 1998 left daughter Christine, a licensed funeral director, who had followed his footsteps and worked alongside her father, to carry on for him, along with Fawn, who, to this day, works with Christine and the entire Daggett staff to maintain superior skills and strong ethical values firmly punctuated with genuine sincerity, a true desire to be helpful, unwavering honesty and professionalism, and naturally, the Daggett hallmark right from the start---compassion---all positive qualities for which George Daggett was known, loved and admired, and for which he will be forever remembered---along with his wonderful wit and humor---and his magnificent foresight to plant trees.
